Likewise, the use of the QoS transport ontology in order to design a service-oriented and component-based architecture for the next generation transport layer will also be developed in following chapters. 1. Introduction In this chapter, an approach intended to follow model-driven approach to analyze and design traditional and advanced transport functions and mechanisms will be presented.
Within these functions, several mechanisms aimed at being deployed at the sending and/or 20 Advanced Transport Protocols receiving side and based on control structures such as windows, estimation equations or network-based probes have been presented. Most of these mechanisms have mainly focused on the network constraints and sometimes can fail in satisfying the requirements of applications such as timeconstraint or partial reliable and partial order-tolerant applications. However, these mechanisms could be enhanced in order to be more compliant with the QoS requirements of this kind of applications.
